Frequently asked questions

WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND?

Do you have a physical store?

Nope, we’re online-only—well, mostly! While our website is our main store, you can also find our products at the following locations we stock:

  • The Slow Fashion Collective: 89 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town, 7925 (Mainly thrift with a few apparel pieces)

  • Lakeside Provisions: Orange Building, 64 Main Road, Kalk Bay, Cape Town, 7790 (A wide range of our apparel and thrift)

  • Markets around Cape Town: on a monthly basis - Keep an eye on our socials to see when & where we op up next (We usually release our latest and full range of thrift and apparel at markets)

Do you stock any other stores (besides your website)?

Yes, we stock a few stores around Cape Town - you can find our products at the following locations we stock:

  • The Slow Fashion Collective: 89 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town, 7925 (Mainly thrift with a few apparel pieces)

  • Lakeside Provisions: Orange Building, 64 Main Road, Kalk Bay, Cape Town, 7790 (A wide range of our apparel and thrift)

  • Markets around Cape Town: on a monthly basis - Keep an eye on our socials to see when & where we op up next (We usually release our latest and full range of thrift and apparel at markets)

Does Retro Club attend any markets/events?

Yes, we do! You can catch us at various markets and pop-up events around Cape Town. We don’t have set dates, but we always announce where we’ll be on our socials—so follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop!

Here are some of the markets we attend frequently:

  • The Studio Candor Market (monthly) – Rondebosch Park, Cape Town

  • Odd Things Bizarre (usually in winter) – The Gin Bar, Cape Town

  • Jongensfontein Christmas Market (yearly, the weekend before Christmas)– Jongensfontein Beach, Still Bay

Why are your prices higher than other fast fashion brands?

Because Retro Club isn’t fast fashion—and we’re proud of that! We’re a South African brand focused on small-scale, local, and earth-conscious production. Anything that’s not mass-produced or “made in China” comes at a price, but for good reason.

We prioritize high-quality, durable fabrics, ethical craftsmanship, and fair wages. Our goal? To create timeless pieces that don’t just follow trends but stay in your wardrobe for years—maybe even long enough to become future vintage treasures! 🌍✨

Why don't you sell thrift on your website anymore?

Retro Club has been growing (which is super exciting!), but as a one-person business, juggling everything can be a lot. Thrift pieces are all one-of-a-kind, meaning each item needs to be photographed, measured, and uploaded individually—a super time-consuming process.

While thrift is still a big part of our identity, we’ve decided to focus our website on our apparel until our we can get more hands on deck. But don’t worry! You can still find a wide range of our pre-loved gems in the shops we stock and at the markets we attend—after all, our love for thrift is what started it all!

Would you be interested in buying my clothing to resell?

Unfortunately, we no longer buy second-hand clothing from individuals. We have a specific curation style and prefer to thrift on our own terms—it's one of the best parts of what we do! We also work with trusted suppliers and carefully research where we source our second-hand pieces from.

But don’t worry—if you have clothes to rehome, here are some great options:

  • Donate to a local charity or directly to those in need. Not everyone can afford thrift store prices.

  • Sell to Lakeside Clothing (105 Main Road, Lakeside). They buy second-hand clothes, but it's best to bring a full black bag to make it worthwhile.

  • Try Yaga—a safe, easy-to-use second-hand selling app where you set your own prices.

  • Resell Doc Martens at Bang Bang Vintage (Lower Main Road, Observatory). They buy unique or vintage Docs at good rates. Check them out on IG: @bangbangvintagemarket

  • Join Thrift Fest—a pop-up thrift event across Cape Town where you can set up a rail and sell your goods. Follow @thriftfest for details!

How does your sizing work?

Sizing can be tricky, but we design our apparel to be loose, baggy, and comfortable—so most pieces fit multiple sizes depending on your preferred fit.

You’ll notice our in between sizes like S-M & M-L. If you purchase size S-M and you are actually a size S then the garment will have a looser comfy fit, while if you are a size M, it will be more fitted. Same goes for the rest of our sizes.

This sizing method helps to reduce fabric waste that accrues during the overproduction of sizes. We also design with “growing & shrinking” in mind, so your clothes can stick with you through body changes—keeping them in your wardrobe (and off the landfills!) for longer.

Can I try on before purchasing online?

Since we’re an online store, trying on before purchasing isn’t an option. But don’t worry—we provide accurate sizing, measurements, and detailed photos to help you find the perfect fit. We recommend checking the measurements listed or comparing them to a similar item in your wardrobe.

Want to try before you buy? You can find our apparel at select stores in Cape Town or at the markets we attend!

How frequently do you launch new apparel?

Retro Club was originally born in the pre-loved vintage world, so we’re still fairly new to the apparel game—and since we’re all about slow, sustainable fashion, we release new pieces in small batches, only when we’re ready. No fast fashion here!

We keep things fresh by updating colours and making small design tweaks rather than chasing trends. Want to know when new drops happen? Follow us on Instagram @retro.club.thrift to stay in the loop!

Do you do returns, exchanges or refunds?

At this stage, we don’t officially offer returns, exchanges, or refunds on our website. As a small brand, managing returns efficiently is something we’re still figuring out, but we hope to offer it in the near future!

To avoid any issues, we highly recommend checking the product descriptions, measurements, and model sizing before purchasing. Since thrifted items aren’t brand new, small imperfections are normal, and any bigger flaws will always be mentioned in the description and reflected in the price. If you're unsure about sizing, you can also try on our apparel at select retail stores or pop-up events (announced on our socials @retro.club.thrift).

That said, we do make exceptions in these cases:

🔹 Defective Slow-Made Apparel – If you receive a faulty item, email hello.retroclub@gmail.com within 48 hours with your order confirmation and clear photos of the issue. (Item must be unused, in its original packaging, and with tags attached.)

🔹 Badly Damaged Thrift Goods – If a major flaw slipped past us (e.g., a button falls off or a zip breaks) within 1 week of receiving your order, email hello.retroclub@gmail.com with your order confirmation and photos of the damage.

We’ll review the issue and let you know how to proceed with a return, refund, or exchange. We always want you to be happy with your purchase! 💛

If you have an issue with your order, please contact us at hello.retroclub@gmail.com with your order number to start the return/ exchange process. (Returns or exchanges are a lengthy process, that's why we try to avoid it if possible, so we kindly ask for your patience in advance.)
